DATACHANNEL AND STC RE-DEFINE "E"
IN XML-BASED ENTERPRISE INFORMATION PORTALS
DataChannel joins STC e*SP Alliance Program

Bellevue, WA - November 8, 1999 -- DataChannel and STC jointly announced
today a Strategic Alliance that will create the most comprehensive
XML-based Enterprise Information Portal (EIP) in the industry. The
DataChannel - STC alliance brings true "enterprise-wide" data access to
DataChannel's already powerful XML-based EIP. DataChannel will combine
STC's e*Gate 4.0 with DataChannel Server 4.0(tm), to access any system,
data, or application in the enterprise. As part of the alliance,
DataChannel has joined STC's e-Solutions Partner (e*SP) Alliance Program
as an e* Software Partner.

STC's mission is to provide business process connectivity and enterprise
application integration technology -- supplying real-time and batch
enterprise integration of applications, databases and legacy systems to a
wide variety of industries. STC's e*Gate(tm) 4.0 e-Business Integrator is
a fourth generation product implemented at more than 1,200 sites
worldwide. e*Gate 4.0 is fully Internet-enabled and allows companies to
tie together new Web-based applications with existing systems such as ERP
and CRM - regardless of platform or technology -- with unprecedented
speed and reliability.

The breadth of application integration and real-time transaction
processing provided by STC's e*Gate will enable DataChannel's EIP to
create a dynamic, two-way, e-business interface, to any system, data, or
application throughout the enterprise.

In addition, STC has created an XML DTD converter that allows the
DataChannel Server to transform information from its original source to
XML format, which can then be managed, integrated, published, or indexed
dynamically through the portal server. This is the foundation of the
alliance. By providing proprietary data structures in open, XML format,
an enterprise can rapidly re-purpose its information for use by any
application.

"Building an EIP isn't an out-of-the box experience. The combination of
STC's technology and the advanced XML expertise of our professional
services team, allows DataChannel to build scalable, reliable Enterprise
Information Portals that deliver a single point of access to all mission
critical information systems. The use of XML in the DataChannel EIP
solutions framework enables the re-purposing of mission critical
information. STC's XML strategy compliments our own and strengthens our
enterprise credibility," said Steve Sterba, Vice President of Professional
Services, DataChannel.

The alliance creates a new view of information for STC customers. "
DataChannel XML-based EIP offers a solution based on open standards,
coupled with a seasoned professional services division. Not only is their
product advanced with its fourth generation, their XML expertise is
superior. We look to them as a premier solutions provider that is well
equipped to solve our customer's information portal requirements." said
Harry Gould, Vice President of Alliances, STC.

Availability
The integration of the companies' offerings is available now through
DataChannel's XML-based EIP Solutions Framework(tm). This Framework
combines the industry leading XML expertise of DataChannel's Professional
Services team with robust, open standards technology that will evolve with

DataChannel Supports Xml.Apache.Org Technology Project

Industry Leader Donates XML Application Markup Language
to Open Source Tools Library

Bellevue, WA - November 9, 1999 -- DataChannel today announced support for
the formation of the XML.APACHE.ORG Project. DataChannel will donate its
XPages(tm), an XML application markup language, to the Apache XML Project
Open Source Library. The rapid adoption of XML has triggered an
overwhelming demand for Open Source XML and XSL tools. DataChannel, Inc.,
the leader in XML-based Enterprise Information Portal Solutions is
continuing its active role in enabling the accelerated development and
deployment of XML applications for electronic commerce and
business-to-business transactions by supporting Apache's Open Source
Library.

DataChannel's XPages is an XML application markup language for quickly
building data-driven, cross-platform Web applications that integrate
disparate data sources. XPages offers a dynamic application environment
defined by an XML file that aggregates multiple data sources, makes that
data URL addressable and defines custom methods to access that data for
presentation at the desktop or other devices. The DataChannel submission
to the XML.APACHE.ORG Project includes Java code for a servlet based
engine.

"DataChannel has been a leader in the open standards development of XML
and sees the formation of XML.APACHE.ORG as another critical step in the
swift adoption of the XML standard," said Lucie Fjeldstad, CEO and
president, DataChannel. "We are pleased to contribute the XPages
technology that we deliver in our Enterprise Information Portal Solutions
to the broader development community via Apache."

XPages is the industries first implementation of a standards-based,
Web-aware, XML-native, platform independent engine for rapidly integrating
disparate data sources. This data may span unstructured data sources like
documents, spreadsheets, and web content, as well as structured data
sources like databases, legacy systems, and customized mission critical
applications.
Using XML declarations to specify the integration of data sources provides
the capability for efficient implementations that have enterprise-class
scalability and reliability.

"Apache was at the heart of the first web revolution and is continuing its
open standards leadership with the formation of the xml.apache.org
Project," said Eliot Kimber, senior consulting engineer, Isogen
International, a DataChannel Company. "By providing high quality Open
Source XML tools, Apache is launching the next major wave in the evolution
of the web."

The Project code, along with developer participation guidelines, are now
available at http://xml.apache.org/
