Subject: OASIS NEWS: Eric Garcia of Sabre Joins OASIS Board of Directors

Eric Garcia of Sabre Joins OASIS Board of Directors

Boston, MA, USA; January 3, 2000-OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement
of Structured Information Standards, welcomed Eric Garcia to the Consortium'
s board of directors. Garcia is vice president of planning and
communications in the strategic architecture department for Sabre, the IT
leader for the travel and transportation industries. Working with fellow
board members, Bill Smith (Sun Microsystems), Jon Parsons (Xyvision
Enterprise Solutions), Alan Hester (Xerox), Robert S. Sutor (IBM), Norbert
H. Mikula (DataChannel), Mary McRae (DMSi) and Simon Nicholson (Sun
Microsystems), Garcia will provide leadership for OASIS work on
interoperability including XML.org and ebXML.

"As a representative of Sabre, I appreciate the opportunity to participate
in OASIS at the board level," commented Garcia. "The Consortium plays a
valuable role in promoting XML interoperability and preventing fragmentation
of the standard by providing an open, vendor-neutral forum. I am
particularly excited by the work of XML.org, the industry portal and
clearinghouse for XML information and schemas and by ebXML, the joint
initiative between OASIS and the UN/CEFACT for the global exchange of
electronic business data."

"Eric's expertise at Sabre, which is investing heavily in XML for travel
industry applications, will be extremely useful to OASIS," said Bill Smith,
president of the OASIS board of directors. "His leadership will be much
appreciated as OASIS moves forward with the most challenging technical work
of its history."

At Sabre, Garcia is responsible for planning the company's technology
strategy and communicating the strategy both internally and externally to
current and prospective customers. His responsibilities also include
aligning the company's technology and business strategies and coordinating
the organizational development and process management. Prior to Sabre,
Garcia was a senior consultant of operations research for American Airlines
Decision Technologies. Garcia holds a master's degree in business
administration in operations management and quantitative methods from
Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the
University of the Philippines.
