NEWS RELEASE

SoftQuad and XtraNet Expand Partnership With XNU.com XML-Authoring Training
Courses
XMetaL to be learning platform for beginners and experts

TORONTO, ON – June 26, 2000 – SoftQuad Software, Ltd. (OTC BB: SXML), an
internationally-recognized developer of XML enabling technologies and
commerce solutions for e-business, and XtraNet, a leading web development
training organization, today announced the launch of an initiative designed
to develop an XML course for beginners through XtraNet’s XNU.com brand.

This course is the first in a series of XML authoring courses to be offered
through XNU.com using XMetaL 2.0, SoftQuad’s premier XML content creation
solution, as a platform for learning. XMetaL is known for its ease-of-use
for beginners, as well as its versatility for XML experts.

“SoftQuad is on the leading-edge of XML authoring technology, so it makes
sense for us to use XMetaL as the foundation for our XML courses,” notes
XtraNet spokesperson Jim Jackson, “and the fact that XMetaL 2.0 is so
straightforward for beginners makes it even better for teaching.”

SoftQuad and XNU.com have also begun to develop the full range of
next-generation XMetaL 2.0 training materials. This will include a complete
redesign and update of the popular “XMetaL Core Configuration” course,
Advanced Configuration materials, and the comprehensive “Train the Trainer”
course.

SoftQuad and XNU.com have a strong history of partnering on educational
programs. XNU offers a series of HTML-authoring courses based upon SoftQuad’
s HoTMetaL Web authoring systems.

“XNU.com has had great success with their series of HoTMetaL HTML-authoring
courses,” says Jonathan Sachs, vice-president, marketing, SoftQuad Software,
Ltd., “and we are delighted to move forward with them on XMetaL courses for
all knowledge levels.”
