Subject: Arbortext and SAIC Join Forces to Provide XML-based e-Content Systemsto United States Government Agencies
Arbortext and SAIC Join Forces to Provide XML-based e-Content Systems to United States Government Agencies Agreement highlights efforts in Government agencies’ move from traditional paper-based environment to an e-content environment ANN ARBOR, Mich., September 12, 2000 -- Arbortext, Inc., a leading provider of Extensible Markup Language (XML) –based e-content software for e-publishing, e-commerce, and B2B e-marketplaces, today announced an alliance agreement with the Applied Content Division of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to provide Arbortext XML-based e-content software and services to agencies within the United States government, including the U.S. Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense. SAIC is the nation’s largest employee-owned research and engineering firm providing information technology and systems integration products and services to government and commercial customers. With this announcement, Arbortext and SAIC will work together to provide systems to Federal agencies that are built on Arbortext’s award-winning and industry leading XML-based Epic e-content software and integration services. These systems will allow federal agencies to more effectively create, manage and distribute intelligent and vital information. “We are offering Arbortext’s products to government customers as part of our integrated solutions,” said Brian Morsch, assistant vice president and manager of the Applied Content Division at SAIC. “These integrated solutions enable our customers to realize significant improvements in their information production and distribution processes.” Many Federal agencies, particularly the U.S. Intelligence Community, need systems that are able to rapidly publish and distribute information that is easily accessible, user-focused and timely. Using Arbortext’s Epic software, these agencies are now able to publish personalized information directly to the Web or to an intranet/extranet, enabling customers to obtain information as soon as it becomes available. Because Epic is an XML standards-based software, Federal agencies are well positioned to publish information to other devices such as e-Books, PDAs and cellular phones. Information exchange and collaboration are increasingly important issues among Government agencies. Systems that employ Arbortext’s XML-based software are a clear choice as the standard for creating, personalizing, managing and distributing e-content among these agencies. Content created using Epic can be easily managed and updated from a single source location, ensuring the information being used is the most recent and accurate available. Epic also provides the powerful capability to personalize information for different audiences as it is published. All organizations require the ability to expand and reduce the information provided to audiences based on criteria such as organizational level, occupation or area of interest. Being able to create and publish personalized information from the same source of content boosts speed and accuracy since individual documents no longer need to be managed, updated and published for each audience. “We are very pleased to work with SAIC to deliver XML-based solutions to United States government agencies,” said PG Bartlett, vice president of marketing at Arbortext. “SAIC is a well-respected, widely-known company whose staff of scientists and engineers has developed a world-wide reputation for providing high quality products and services to their customers. It is because of SAIC’s strong reputation and commitment to customers that we continue to be successful in providing XML-based software solutions to Federal agencies.” About SAIC SAIC is a Fortune 500 company and the nation’s largest employee-owned research and engineering firm.
