Subject: NEW DOMAIN NAME FOR XML COVER PAGES

OASIS Members,

The XML Cover Pages web site hosted by OASIS has a new domain name and
root URL:

           http://xml.coverpages.org/

This change reflects our desire to create a functionally permanent and
persistent URL for The XML Cover Pages.

The XML Cover Pages is widely regarded as the most comprehensive online
reference work for XML and SGML. Edited by Robin Cover, The XML Cover
Pages
feature an extensive reference collection of more than 6000 documents on
the
application of markup language standards. On average, 80,000 people
visit this site
each month, and many rely on its "What's New" column for daily updates
on XML
resources and industry initiatives.

We hope all OASIS members will take time to register the new URL in any
appropriate Web documents. We request your cooperation especially in the
case of frequently visited pages you might maintain which reference
resources in The XML Cover Pages.

Please be assured that this domain name change has been engineered in
such
a manner as to *not* break existing links to documents in The XML Cover
Pages collection (e.g., URLs published in hardcopy print media, URLs
embedded in
users' bookmark files and in legacy HTML documents). Therefore, if you
do
absolutely nothing, your links should still work. Nevertheless, in the
interest of minimizing confusion and maximizing Internet link quality,
we
are attempting to retire the old URL from visibility and use.

We ask you to pass this information on to your webmasters, managing
editors, and website maintainers. In most cases, a simple (global) string
edit
substituting "xml.coverpages.org" (the new address string) for
"www.oasis-open.org/cover" (the old one) should be safe within HTML
anchor
("<A>") element start tags and elsewhere in HTML source documents.

The XML Cover Pages is sponsored by OASIS members, ISOGEN International,
Software AG, Sun Microsystems and webMethods. For information on
additional
sponsorship opportunities, contact Laura Walker, executive director of
OASIS at laura.walker@oasis-open.org.

OASIS deeply appreciates your assistance in improving the quality of
information on the Net. As always, we welcome your suggestions or
comments
on The XML Cover Pages and remain committed to meeting your information
needs. Comments may be sent via email to robin.cover@oasis-open.org.

Regards,
Carol
