Subject: XML 2001 Call for Presentations, Tutorials, Exhibits and Sponsors
XML 2001 Call for Presentations, Tutorials, Exhibits and Sponsors December 9-14, 2001 Walt Disney Dolphin Hotel Orlando, Florida http://www.xmlconference.org XML: What Really Works? Interest in XML has virtually exploded since it was first introduced at this conference five years ago. XML is the basis for many new technologies and a host of new business models and products. But are all these new technologies and products worthwhile? Do they really solve business needs? The answers to these important questions will be found at this year's conference, XML: What Really Works? This is where you come in. We are looking for top-quality tutorials and talks that help attendees understand what works and what doesn't, as well as glimpses into the future. The attendees at XML 2001 want to hear first hand from the experts which products will solve their problems and which methodologies will meet their needs. Whether as speaker, tutorial presenter, exhibitor, or sponsor, XML 2001 provides the best forum to share your knowledge or demonstrate your products. . XML 2001 continues its 15-year tradition of offering high quality content. Two days of tutorials will be followed by four days of conference sessions. The vendor exhibition will run during the first three days of the conference. Conference Topic Areas Speaking sessions: Suggested topic areas are Core Technologies, Web Services, Knowledge Management, Electronic Commerce, Publishing, Case Studies, Wireless Applications, and Healthcare. Other ideas are welcome. Talks can be introductory or advanced, geared to implementers or executives. We are not looking for extremely technical developer content or introductory talks about what XML is (although introductory tutorials are welcomed). Vendor presentations: This year we offer two areas designed for product presentations. The New Technologies area is ideal for demonstrations of brand new technologies. The Vendor Offerings area will include demonstrations of new or existing products. Town Meetings: XML 2001 will host a new event, called "Town Hall Meetings." Held throughout the conference, these interactive forums are designed to allow all attendees to join open-mike town-hall forums. This will be a great way to ask questions, listen to suggestions, soak up praise, endure abuse, hold straw polls, or go into more detail on particular issues not possible during other presentations. Call for Presentations All interested parties are invited to submit proposals. Presentations will be chosen to fit 45-minute time blocks (30-35 minutes for presentation and 10-15 minutes for questions). A version of the paper must also be written in XML for publication in the Proceedings (with the exception of product demonstrations). XML authoring software will be provided. Further instructions will follow upon acceptance of a presentation. Electronic conference proceedings will be produced and made available on the Website and CD-ROM. All selected speakers will receive a free registration for the conference (December 11-14), provided their paper, tagged in XML, is received by the October 15, 2001 deadline. In addition, all submitters of complete abstracts not chosen for the conference will automatically receive a discount of $100 off the conference registration amount. Registration instructions will be forwarded. Submissions must be made online by June 15, 2001. Call for Town Hall Meetings All interested parties are invited to submit proposals for Town Hall Meetings at XML 2001. You may suggest an idea and/or a discussion leader. Submissions must be made online by June 15, 2001. Call for Tutorials GCA is seeking highly qualified instructors to lead tutorials, which will be selected based on merits of the topic and instructor. Tutorials will be one-half, full or two-day workshops. Please be sure to indicate any special requirements and length of your tutorial on the submission form. A complete handout for the tutorial will be required. Selected instructors will receive a free Gold Pass registration (December 9-14), provided their tutorial handout is received by the November 16, 2001 deadline. In addition, all submitters of complete abstracts not chosen for the conference will automatically receive a discount of $100 off the conference registration amount. Registration instructions will be forwarded. Submissions must be made online by June 29, 2001. Please note: Marketing/promotional presentations will not be considered for tutorials or presentations. Material must reflect information as described in the acceptance abstract and must be original work of professional quality. Selected authors will be notified and guideline materials will follow. Vendor/Product Presentations Precedence will be given to submissions that demonstrate products to be launched at XML 2001, products to be announced and demonstrated first at XML 2001, brand new technologies, new versions of existing products, standards-compliance, and/or interoperability proof (i.e., showing more than one product from different vendors working together). Submissions must be made online by October 1, 2001. Late Breaking News Due to the nature of the event topics, GCA will reserve several speaking spots for "Late-Breaking News Sessions." These presentations will be designed for ideas and technical developments so new that normal lead-time is not possible. These sessions will be awarded at the discretion of the conference chair and planning committee. If you are interested in submitting a late breaking news session, please request a slot by June 15, and submit your proposal online by October 1, 2001. Call for Exhibitors & Sponsors The Annual XML event has earned a reputation for excellence, providing vendors access to perhaps the most well-informed and well-qualified audience on XML. We invite you to join the more than 100 exhibiting companies at this year's event. The conference and exposition has several sponsorship opportunities available. Organizations interested in participating as an exhibitor or sponsor should contact: Julie Desmond jdesmond@idealliance.org Phone: +1 617 698 0277 Associated, Affiliated, and Related Meetings GCA encourages other organizations (especially standards activities groups) to meet the week before or after XML 2001.
