Arbortext 5 Simplifies Multichannel Publishing for Dynamic Content

New products reduce hidden costs and inefficiencies; improve content
creation and publishing

ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 5, 2003 -- Arbortext, Inc., a leading global
provider of XML-based software for content creation and multichannel
publishing, today announced Arbortext 5. Featuring three major new
products and many enhancements, Arbortext 5 is designed to help medium
and large enterprises eliminate the substantial costs and pain
associated with the implementation of content systems to create and
share information.

Arbortext 5 represents a significant advancement for the business user
by putting them in control rather than requiring the specialized
expertise of an XML programmer. This new version provides the business
user with direct access to XML content across the enterprise, which
protects document integrity and enables them to quickly and easily
create applications for publishing dynamic content to multiple types of
media.

Additionally, Arbortext 5 augments the XML editing capabilities of the
Enterprise and Professional versions of Microsoft Office 2003.

“The costs of creating and then re-creating the same content for
different purposes may be one of the biggest hidden costs that remain
for information-intensive enterprises,” said Susan Feldman, IDC’s VP for
Content Technologies Research. Many companies today are just starting
to realize the amount of time and money their employees waste while
creating and re-purposing content. “Arbortext 5 helps solve the problem
of ‘copy and paste abuse’ and other redundant work that is necessary in
the typical document publishing life cycle. The upcoming release also
reduces implementation time and costs by putting more control in the
hands of the business users.”

“Arbortext 5 represents our most significant product milestones,” said
Ray Schiavone, president and CEO, Arbortext. “Not only does it provide
improved functionality for both authors and developers, it also resolves
a critical and often times hidden business problem that many companies
are just now starting to address.”

Contributor, Styler and DCA Manager are the three new products that will
be available with Arbortext 5. Additionally, Arbortext 5 contains the
following enhancements:

·	Enterprise Content Creation – Arbortext 5 provides two new options to
connect everyone in the organization to the power, efficiency and
flexibility of XML-based information. For subject matter experts who
create content, this release supports both Microsoft Office Word 2003
and Contributor, the new browser-based editor from Arbortext. For power
authors who not only create content, but also package that content for
publishing and distribution, Arbortext’s Epic Editor continues to offer
greater power and greater ease of use.

·	Stylesheet Development – The new Styler is the first stylesheet
development tool aimed at designers, not programmers. This product will
dramatically reduce the time it takes to develop and update stylesheets
for multichannel publishing because it allows designers to work within a
familiar user interface while shielding them from the complexity of the
actual stylesheet.

·	Dynamic Elements - This feature gives authors a powerful set of
controls for making content dynamic, eliminating the need for highly
skilled technical resources. DCA Manager tracks and manages the
relationships among dynamic elements to ensure the integrity of the
resulting publications.

·	Application Integration – Arbortext 5 improves integration with
content management systems with its new WebDAV support as well as
supporting programming interfaces through SOAP, which allows for easier
interface to other business systems.

Availability
The Arbortext 5 product suite will be available Winter, 2003.
