Subject: OASIS Member News: XML Conference and Exposition 2003 to Feature JDF Pavilion, Seminar
XML Conference and Exposition 2003 to Feature JDF Pavilion, Seminar Alexandria, VA - Nov. 10, 2003 - Recognizing the growing interest in the Job Definition Format (JDF) specification and its application in automating the printing and publishing process, IDEAlliance, a leading trade association dedicated to fostering information technology standards, today announced that a JDF Pavilion and Seminar will be featured at the upcoming XML Conference and Exposition 2003, being held Dec. 7-12, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa. IDEAlliance, working with the International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press, and Postpress (CIP4) organization and L. A. Burman Associates, has planned a program at XML 2003 designed to encourage the adoption of the JDF Specification. “JDF can play a crucial role in tying together print production, prepress, creative and MIS to create new efficiencies,” says David Steinhardt, president and CEO of IDEAlliance. “This program will highlight real-world scenarios where JDF has been applied and achieved significant results.” JDF Seminar will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 9. Keynote speaker Kin Wah Lam of Time Inc. will present his vision of process automation enabled by JDF. Seminar sessions will focus on practical applications of JDF solutions to provide an understanding of where and how JDF/JMF can be used and its affect on productivity and the bottom line. Registration information is available at <http://www.idealliance.org/jdftour/>. The JDF Pavilion will be open on the show floor of the XML 2003 Exposition from 12:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 9 and 10. Product demonstrations will include real-time JDF interoperability among multiple vendors and products. Vendors represented in the JDF Pavilion include Adobe, Agfa, Creo, EFI, Heidelberg, NexPress, Printcafe, and Wam!Net. “The need for end-to-end workflows, such as our own :Delano and :ApogeeX, driven by standardized customer data linking all systems together, is at the heart of any strategy to lower overall print costs and enhance profitability,” says Deborah Hutcheson, senior marketing manager, Workflow and Color Systems, Agfa. “JDF fills this requirement and will play a significant role in moving the industry forward.” About the Job Definition Format JDF is an upcoming industry standard designed to simplify information exchange between different applications and systems in and around the Graphic Arts industry. JDF builds on and extends beyond pre-existing partial solutions, such as CIP3's Print Production Format (PPF) and Adobe Systems' Portable Job Ticket Format (PJTF). It also enables the integration of commercial and planning applications into the technical workflow. JDF joins the growing number of standards based on XML, ensuring maximum possible portability between different platforms and ready interaction with Internet-based systems.
