What's Happening at the Upcoming OASIS Adoption Forum 17-18 October 2005 Hilton London Metropole Hotel London, UK http://www.oasis-open.org/events/adoption_forum_2005/ ~ What's New... The Event Expands to Include an Add-On OpenDocument and DITA Special Event, Sponsored by Sun Microsystems and IBM. Following the OASIS Adoption Forum will be a half-day program showcasing two newly approved OASIS Standards, OpenDocument and the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA). DITA builds content reuse into the authoring process for document creation and management. OpenDocument provides a royalty-free, XML-based file format that covers features required by text, spreadsheets, charts, and graphical documents. This new special event will be free to all registered OASIS Adoption Forum attendees. Individuals interested in attending this half-day event only may register online at http://www.oasis-open.org/events/adoption_forum_2005/registration.php. The fee for the half-day only program on the 18th is 60 USD for OASIS members and 90 USD for non-members. The program also expands to include two new presentations on the Universal Business Language (UBL) and a Norwegian e-health infrastructure case study based on XML, ebXML, and PKI. In addition to all the new programming, OASIS is pleased to announce that Xenos will host an evening reception on Monday night. Xenos is the most recent sponsor to support the event. The event will be chaired by John Borras, the CEO of the UK's Local e-Government Standards Body. Bola Rotibi, a senior analyst from Ovum will provide a keynote discussing how open standards and open source relate, how they differ, and what the future holds for both. The agenda includes presentations from HM Revenue & Customs on standards and taxation, from the Netherlands Ministry of Finance on best practices for e-government, and from the Norwegian Insurance Administration on its ebXML-based national e-health infrastructure. Rounding out the first day will be featured panel on open standards and the need for coordination between standards organizations. The panel will bring together representatives from the most influential standards organizations in Europe, including: CEN/ISSS, GS1, ICTSB, and ITU. ~ Affordable Meeting Fees... The 50 USD early-bird registration discount ends 19 September. An additional discount is available to all OASIS members (100 USD). The fee to attend the Forum (before the early-bird deadline) is 250 USD for OASIS members and 350 USD for non-members.
