Subject: OASIS Open CSA Member Section Steering Committee 'Special Election'
OASIS Open CSA Member Section Members, One seat on the OASIS Open CSA Member Section Steering Committee (SC) is now open for nomination and election. The current SC consists of six members [1] and does not comply with the Rules of Procedure, 'The SC shall consist of seven (7) members...' [2], therefore, a Special Election will be held.
The Member Section will nominate and elect one Steering Committee Members to complete the recently vacated one-year term.
The nomination and election procedures for the Steering Committee are defined by the OASIS Member Section Policy [3] and the Open CSA Member Section Rules of Procedure [2]. Any Open CSA participant [4] may nominate or be nominated as a candidate for the Steering Committee. (Any OASIS member may join the Open CSA MS at no additional cost [5].)
Each Open CSA Supporting Entity has one Qualified Elector who casts the single vote on behalf of his/her organization. Unless otherwise designated, the organization's Primary Representative serves as the Qualified Elector.
***Per the schedule below, the voting period will be one week. Please note, if you are the Primary Representative for your organization and unable to vote during the designated time period, please defer the voting member role to another employee member by sending an email to member-services@oasis-open.org, any such change should be in place before the ballot is cast.**
NOMINATION & ELECTION SCHEDULE
Nominations will be open 16-Oct-2008 through 31-October-2008.
The election will be held 03-Nov-2008 through 11-Nov-2008.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Any Open CSA participant may nominate a candidate via email to: nominations@oasis-open.org.
Prior to being confirmed as a candidate, each nominee must:
1. Accept the nomination;
2. Confirm his/her ability to meet the time commitments of the position (participation in a two-hour teleconference each month, additional support activities as needed);
3. Provide background information and a position statement describing his/her qualifications and motivations for serving on the Steering Committee; and
4. Be a participant in the Open CSA Member Section.
ELECTION PROCESS
The new Steering Committee members will be selected by the Open CSA Qualified Electors, using the Single Transferable Voting (STV) process - Scottish Method [6]. STV considers each voter's ranked preference for candidates, in order to more accurately reflect the wishes of the electorate. Open CSA Qualified Electors will be sent detailed voting instructions separately.
Results will be announced immediately after they are tabulated and confirmed.
