Subject: [business-transaction] Fw: Issues related to the new draft modelsection of BTP Spec

Copying to the main BTP list to promote extra participation.
Best regards Tony

Dear BTPers,

Peter has identified a number of the current Issues against the BTP
specification that should be answered by the new model section. He has
asked me to read through and to try to indicate the particular parts of the
model draft that address particular issues. I have tried to do this below
and have indicated who originated the issue. It may will be that you will
consider other parts of the model to relevant to an issue as well (please
mail me with the issue number and the location of the relevant text /
diagram, if this is the case, so I can help Peter with the resolution of
these issues - Thanks).

Please would you all (not just the originators) like to look at the issues
and the draft model text and satisfy yourselves that it does adequately
address your concerns. It would be nice if you could indicate that you are
satisfied. If not, please contribute revised text / diagrams that would you
would find satisfactory. Thank you. I have attached the zip file of the
version of the model text I have used (resent to make reference easy for
you).

 Best regards Tony

  9 Better explanation of Atom/Cohesion
 Alastair Green
 'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 8-9)
 'Evolution of confirm-set' (Page 14-17).

 13 Definition of Terminator
 Gordon Hamilton
'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 9) - last paragraph.
'Business transaction creation' (Page 10) - and particularly the middle
paragraph.
 'Control of inferiors' (Page 14).
 'Terminator:Decider failures' (Page 24-25)

 21 Multiple Superior:Inferior relationships within a Cohesion
 Gordon Hamilton
 'Control of inferiors' (Page 14).
 '"Checking" and context-reply' (Page 11).

24 The apparent complexity of model is too great.
 Bill Cox
'Model' and 'Example Core' (Page 2)
 Whole of model section text.

25 Clarity needed between atomic and cohesion
 Bill Cox
 'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 8-9)
 'Evolution of confirm-set' (Page 14-17).

27 Draft 0.9 is opaque, difficult to read and to understand
 Bill Cox
'Structure of this specification' (Page 1)
 Whole of model section text.

28 Need for state diagrams and explanatory text
 Bill Cox
 Not addressed yet?

32 Italics for first use of "Business Transaction"
 Mark Little
'Business Transactions' (Page 3) - convention used seems to be to use bold
for first occurance of a glossary term rather than italics.

 34 Superior and Inferior
 Mark Little
 'Superior:Inferior relationship' (Page 6)
 'Business transaction trees' (Page 6-7)

35 Superior and Inferior (2)
 Mark Little
 'Superior:Inferior relationship' (Page 6)
 'Business transaction trees' (Page 6-7)

 36 Two-phase cancel - NOT
 Mark Little
 'Two-phase outcome' (Page 5).
'Autonomous cancel and confirm' (Page 19-21).

37 Acceptable to application or participant
 Mark Little
 'External effects' (Page 4).

 38 First use of "cohesion"
 Mark Little
'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 8-9) - Build up of the cohesion concept in the
model section overcomes original issue(?)

 42 Cohesive Superior
 Mark Little
'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 8-9) - The model section provides the required
introduction(?)

 43 REQUEST_STATUS and STATUS coupling
 Mark Little
Comment needs to be addressed in Part 2 of spec. rather than the model
section?
Need to add to 'Terminator:Decider failures' section (Page 24-25) and / or
add section on status requestor 'entity'?

 44 Decider and other terms
 Mark Little
'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 9) - last paragraph.
'Business transaction creation' (Page 10) - and particularly the middle
paragraph.

 45 Compound addresses
 Mark Little
 Issue not properly addressed yet?
'Redirection' (Page 24) - particularly first bullet.

 48 completion of enrolment
 Mark Little
 'Business transaction propagation' (Page 10).
 '"Checking" and context-reply' (Page 11-12).
'Optimisations and variations' 'Spontaneous prepared' (Page 17) -
particularly middle paragraph.

53 will or may contradict ?
 Mark Little
 'Evolution of confirm-set' (Page 14-17).

 56 State table text
 Mark Little
Relevant text used as reference material for writing the model section.

 59 Interposition description needed
 Mark Little
'Business transaction trees' (Page 7-8) - particularly paragraph after
Figure 3 and associated Figure 4
'Creation of Intermediates (Sub-Coordinators and Sub-Composers)' (Page 11).

63 Clarify the terminology around actors, roles and relationships
 Sazi Temel
 'Actors and roles' (Page 5)

64 can inferior know type of superior ?
 Pyounguk Cho
'Business transaction creation' (Page 10) - and particularly the last
paragraph.
 'Business transaction propagation' (Page 10).

65 participant as immediate inferior of composer ?
 Pyounguk Cho
 'Participants, Sub-Coordinators and Sub-Composers' (Page 9)

66 Event diagram for termination protocol
 Pyounguk Cho
Text and diagrams of model section may help - but what exactly did you have
in mind Pyounguk? State table in Part 2 specifies the definitive permitted
sequences. Message sequences that illustrate these could be added in model
section (but limited) or in Primer (more cases).

68 (sub)coordinators, (sub)composers with no inferiors
 Pyounguk Cho
 'Participants, Sub-Coordinators and Sub-Composers' (Page 9)

69 prepared subcomposer with unprepared inferiors ?
 Pyounguk Cho
'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 9) - see penultimate paragraph - NOT permitted.
'Creation of Intermediates (Sub-Coordinators and Sub-Composers)' (Page 11).

 70 Confirm-set evolution
 Pyounguk Cho
 'Evolution of confirm-set' (Page 14-17).

 72 Scope of Context
 Pyounguk Cho
 'Business transaction propagation' (Page 10).
 '"Checking" and context-reply' (Page 11-12).
 'Control of inferiors' (Page 13).

 73 ACID relaxation in overview
 Pyounguk Cho
'External Effects' and Table 1 (Page 4)

75 Ensure all participants are enrolled
 Sazi Temel
 '"Checking" and context-reply' (Page 11-12).
'Optimisations and variations' 'Spontaneous prepared' (Page 17) -
particularly middle paragraph.

 76 Need for explanatory materiel
 Mark Little
'Model' and 'Example Core' (Page 2)

 88 Cohesion vs. Atomic
 Geoff Brown
 'Atoms and Cohesions' (Page 8-9)
