Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (CAMP-24) Assembly Template and Assembly trees should be analogous

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/CAMP-24?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=31704#action_31704 ]

Gilbert Pilz commented on CAMP-24:
----------------------------------

With regards to #2 - although the CIMI case is analogous, I think there is are differences with regards to scale. Whereas CIMI expects that there may be 100's of Machines created from the same Machine Template, I don't think CAMP expects that there will be 100's of Assembly instances created from the same Assembly Template. Also, creating Machines is how CIMI scales, it has to be fast - whereas you scale a CAMP application by modifying one or more Platform Components (i.e. a Container component). Finally, I wanted to cover the case of an Assembly Template that only allows a single Assembly instance to be created from it. In this case the presence of a non-null "Assemblies" array is a clear indication that attempting to create another Assembly instance will fail.

I agree that we need to discuss whether it is worthwhile maintaining Application Component Templates and Platform Component Templates as separate resource types.

> If you draw out an Assembly Template tree and it's corresponding Assembly tree for a simple application you will notice that the Application Component Templates do not contain any links to the Platform Component Templates or Application Component Templates that they depend upon but the Application Components do contain links to the Platform Components and Application Components. At the very least, this difference needs to be explained in the spec.
