Subject: RE: [cgmo-webcgm] My initial responses

Hi Dave,

I find your answers fair. Maybe a few small clarifications:

3) Add: Opera claims to have good support for SVG, but doesn't seem to
have the popularity of Firefox. Firefox's SVG support is improving; but
SVG probably isn't their highest priority (may take a while). It's
believed that Apple has SVG support in Safari (Apple recently rejoined
the SVG working group), but no product has been released. As for IE;
Microsoft seems to be focusing on its own proprietary format.

6) SVG is the closest.

My answer for 8) would be different. I actually think that the fact it
is not XML does hurt. And I know Lofton will jump on this one; bring it
on :-P
Here is what I think, it's my personal opinion and doesn't speak to
PTC's position or Dieter's.

One of the draw back of CGM is that it isn't well supported by artistic
drawing tools; and thus unknown to the typical graphics artist. This
will slow the growth of CGM. The fact that it is not XML does hurt. It
means that it can't be _easily_ hand written and it can't be generated
by a Web Service or XSLT. This also limits how CGM can be used in the
marketplace.

For 10), I agree but with respect to the niche market of technical
illustrations.

Regards,
Ben

Attached are my initial responses to the questions from Greg Schaap.
Let's build on them during the f2f meeting.

Thx...Dave
