Subject: New OASIS Navigation
OASIS TC chairs, Thank you all for your cooperation on bringing consistency and brevity to our TC descriptions. The alphabetical list of TCs at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/committees.php is now much more useful. The second step in enhancing OASIS web site navigation will be to make it easier for visitors to locate specific OASIS TCs and to get an idea of the breadth of OASIS work and relationships between TCs. The current, extremely lengthy, left vertical navigation on the OASIS public pages lists more than 60 TCs, some by topic, some by TC acronym, some by spec name, and some by spec acronym. For visitors new to OASIS, finding a specific TC or getting a sense for the scope of OASIS technical work can be very challenging. To address these issues, OASIS is revising our public left nav, so that visitors can locate a TC by name (on the alphabetical list) and by category of work. With guidance from the TAB, OASIS has grouped all of our TCs into nine categories. The revised left nav will list categories with links to pages that provide descriptions for TCs directly related to that category. You can get a preview of the categories and how the new left nav will appear at our dev site, http://www.oasis-open.org/home/index_nav.php. Our goal is to feature each TC on the one category that is most descriptive of its work. In a few unavoidable cases, TCs are listed in more than one category to accommodate what we anticipate will be multiple common-sense assumptions by visitors. Please let me know if you feel your TC has been incorrectly assigned to a category by COB on Monday. We'll transition to the new nav as soon as possible next week. Again, we appreciate your assistance in making the OASIS web site a better showcase of your work.
