Subject: Re: [chairs] Question regarding JIRA notifications

Thanks Ken. Yes, that's the tradeoff isn't it. Maybe we have an alternative idea that will help match that balance. More to follow.

For non-active members, I worry that the multiple notifications going to the TC mail list will scare them away from the committee because their inbox can get overwhelmed.

For active members, I worry that the absence of notifications will not trigger them to participate on a ticket in a timely fashion.

I fall on the side of the active members.  I want them to know a ticket has been touched.  I hate that it fills the inbox, but I think the notifications are more important.  Then again, I worry my committee members get so many of these notifications that the notifications are ignored and the trigger I want never happens.

A quandary for sure.

Greetings TC chairs,Â

A quick request for feedback.Â

I have had several people over the past year object to our configuration that sends an email to the TC mailing list every time a JIRA issue is updated. "JIRA spam" as some have called it.Â

My justification was transparency. But I get it all so I sympathize with the complaints.Â

Since JIRA is publicly visible and anyone can choose to watch issues of interest, my question is this:Â

Would you prefer that a JIRA notice only be sent when an issue is opened or closed? Or does your TC find the updates useful?Â

Thanks for your input and I'll let you all know what I learn.Â

Best,Â
