Robert also explained how most of the standards do not handle "Global" names and addresses as most of the people who deal with name and address think they know everything. He then mentioned about the Indian postal system that could be agood example of the complexity of the names and addressees and the varying nature. Ram then explained how names are handled differently in souther parts of India compared to the northern parts of India. Robert and Joe introduced themselves to the committee and their experiences on names and addresses and about the different committees they serve on. Ram the explained about the upcoming vVersion 2.0 of xNL, xAL and xCIL that can support complete namespace and has the ability to import data structures from other namespaces as well. Ram then said that a draft version of the standards will be available in the middle of May as documentation work is currently in progress. Joe asked about how backward compatible are the new versions of CIQ standards. Max explained that they are not 100% compatible as new elements have been added and some element structures have been cleaned up and re-structured to make it simpler. David Webber joined the conference call at this time and Ram briefly explained to him what the committee was discussing. Ram then told the committee that 3 press releases are coming in May related to the CIQ TC and it should add more publicity. The three press releases are: - "Global Enabled Supply Chain Series: Customer Relationship Management" - an interview conducted by iSource. The groups interviewed were: The Yankee Group, Meta Group, a CRM Industry analyst and Ram Kumar of CIQ TC - A write up about xCRL by CRM Guru.com - An article about CIQ standards in Data Management Review (DM Review) Ram then mentioned that work is in progress to extend xCRL to support for Person to Organisation and Organisation to Organisation relationships with additional entities such as accounts, products and services. David then explained about the importance of people using CIQ standards and the general feeling is that CIQ standards provide too much of detail than what is needed for many though CIQ has done a fantastic job of providing a detailed spec. from a data quality perspective. David then explained about the concept of address levels along the ideas of OAG V8.0 and the AssemblyDoc of ebXML. David then explained about the different levels as follows: Level 0: The most abstract level of address detail like scribbling something on a paper. Level 1: For most legacy systems with simple addresses Level 2: Postal addresses - a level of detil. Eg. P.O.Box, MailStop (pertinent to postal deliveries) Level 3: Shipping and delivery addresses for large organisations/mail users. Eg. Hospitals Level 4: Finite levels of address (detailed level) eg. CIQ standards According to David, if we can re-define our standards with these sort of different levels, it makes it much easier for users to use CIQ standards. Joe then explained about the importance of address validation and re-construction of address elements. Joe explained about the importance of address templates and automated processing of addresses. David then explained about his work with AssemblyDoc for ebXML which is based on this leveling concept. David chairs this AssemblyDoc group and mentioned that he is working on some documentation regarding this for the ebXML Barcelona conference. Robert then explained how the UK addresses depend on Postal Address Files and about UK Govts. decision to create a non postal file as the postal standard. Joe then explained about his work with UPU, Direct Mail Advisory Board and USPS. He then mentioned that Holger Wandt, Chair of CEN WG331, and himself are the accrediated boservers of the UPU project. Robert then explained how hard it is to get any information from UPU. Following are the agreed action items: ACTION ITEMS ============ 1. Joe Lubenow to e-mail his document on Postal Address template to CIQ TC 2. David to e-mail the AssemblyDoc to CIQ TC once it is completed. 3. David to ask OAG to give him some examples about the levels of addressing and will e-mail them to the CIQ TC 4. David to send some information about the different addressing levels to the CIQ TC 5. Ram to send Joe the document he produced for CEN WG 331 for potential collaboration with CIQ TC 6. The CIQ TC to read the documents sent by Joe and David and exchange ideas on what can be done to the CIQ standards along the lines of leveling of addresses
