Subject: RE: [ciq] Another potential use of CIQ
Ram, Well let's hope they do. Does the qualifier "international" mean that USPTO is unable to also consider it for domestic addresses? Also, as probably applies to the USPTO, is there an opportunity to consider renaming CIQ (customer information quality) or at least give it a public alias for the sake of adoption discussions? I have tested the adoption waters a bit with some people involved in law enforcement and anti-terrorism, and one difficulty is that the CIQ name somewhat retards the discussion. Not only do many groups not think of themselves as having "customers" (or if they do, it is not these customers that they track), but CIQ really covers various categories of party "master data." It of course does not cover transactional "customer information" - recent purchases, payment history, etc., but the name might lead people to think it does. With respect to the "Q" in CIQ, clearly CIQ is not itself a quality-enhancing process as commonly understood nor akin to a certificate of test results against some objective specification. The CIQ "quality" trio (Valid, InValid, blank) is perhaps better thought of as testimonials to handoff "authorativeness." Again, that Q plays into a lot of preconceptions. Much of the value of CIQ is in the relationships it supports - e.g., human person to employing entity to jurisdiction and entity license to do business. The CIQ name does not in itself highlight the relationship data supported in CIQ. It probably would be better to have a meaningless public name (such as "Cairo" although it's been used) than to build meaning into yet another acronym.
