Subject: CMIS Marketing Group

In order to better promote adoption of CMIS, educate the marketplace, and provide visibility benefits to our members, OASIS is forming the CMIS Marketing Group. A kick-off teleconference is scheduled for Tuesday, 8 May 2012, at 15:00 GMT (11:00 Boston, 17:00 Paris).
The CMIS Marketing Group represents a new kind of collaboration option within OASIS that:
- is expressly designed for members with expertise in marketing
- works to support the mission of the TC and keeps the TC informed of its activities
- does not create technical content, thus does not invoke the IPR Policy or TC Process
- does not require dual membership in the TC
Participation in the CMIS Marketing Group will be geared for marketing professionals or technical specialists with a strong interest in marketing. Most will have direct responsibility for their organization's outreach activities including press and analyst relations, social media engagement, conference and expo participation, branding, collateral, etc.
All organizations that are involved in the CMIS TC at the Sponsor-level are strongly encouraged to have at least one representative in the CMIS Marketing Group in order to take full advantage of their marketing benefits. Contributors, Associates and Individual members are also welcome to participate.
Keep in mind, the CMIS Marketing Group's function is to support and promote the work of the TC via marketing activities. The TC remains the source of all technical work and maintains authority for all decisions regarding the CMIS standard.
Potential CMIS Marketing Group activities are listed in the Group Description (link below). Regarding how the TC and the Marketing Group might interact, should the TC decide to stage an Interop, for example, the Marketing Group would be responsible for: recommending venues; working with staff on creating hand-outs, booth slides, video, and signage based on technical information provided by the TC; promoting attendance via social media, mailing lists, etc.; setting up press/analyst briefings (using designated TC members as spokespersons), collecting testimonials from participants... The TC members would focus on the demo itself, interoperability issues, technical logistics, etc.

If there are others at your organization who are directly involved in marketing but not TC members, please encourage them to contact me directly for information on getting involved.
Note: The CMIS Marketing Group will expand and replace the "cmis-mktg" mailing list created in 2010. Subscribers to that mailing list are asked to join the CMIS Marketing Group, as all future marketing discussions will take place on cmis-marketing.
