Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (CMIS-196) Pessimistic Locking

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/CMIS-196?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=10813#action_10813 ]

Florent Guillaume commented on CMIS-196:
----------------------------------------

We would support such explicit locking.
If we're looking for a simple model, I'd say that locking just Documents is enough.
Lock expiration could also be left up to the server implementation.

To make locks fit in the CMIS model there are several ways:
1. add methods to the object service (as proposed), or to a new service,
2. use a Policy object.

Because locks affect write permissions, I feel they are a natural fit for being a standard subtype of Policy.

> After some workshops around CMIS integration scenarios it appears that the lack of pessimistic locking might be an issue in some situations. There are some use cases (for example in SAP) that require a hard lock on an object and there are related standards like WebDAV that have support for locks which can not be mapped to CMIS today. The current spec proposal was designed intentionally this way and that there are a couple of issues with this introducing this. However I would like to get a better picture how much demand there is in the TC for having such a feature in the CMIS domain model.
