Business

ITEM: DITA 1.2 Architectural Spec update (Kristen or Gershon)

ITEM: Glossary support—review status comments below:

Comment from R. Anderson

Joe and his developers are Suite
Solutions are leading the work on the FO plug-in at the moment, so if they
do not plan to implement it, then it probably will not go in soon. If
somebody else is willing to do some work on it, I would expect that they
could include it, but IBM is not using that plug-in yet so I can't get any
developers to devote time to it right now.

The existing support should support glossary entries as if they are
individual topics, using the usual specialization fallback mechanism. If
they are not even supported to that extent, then I'd view it as a critical
bug, because it would mean that specialization support itself is not
working. Anything above that fallback behavior is probably not available
though.

Comment from J. Gelb
Basically: there is nearly 0% support added in up to now. However, since
all the elements are specialized from something else, it could be that
there would be reasonable behavior without doing much – would need to get
tested with some real content. This is aside from any specific best
practice behaviors specified in the spec that would require complex
processing.
Although I am fairly certain we do have code for implementing glossaries,
we have not yet hit upon any customers who asked for this implementation,
so we do not have anything ready for contribution on this at this point.
However, we did have a customer who needed something that was not included
in this spec, <gloss-sort-as>, which we did in fact implement. Perhaps
someone on the dita architecture committee (or whoever created this spec)
can suggest including this.

ITEM: Review the two glossary and acronym articles— we will publish both separately

From Tony Self: For some time, I have been trying to get Swinburne University involved in OASIS, and have finally made some progress. They might be able to add something to the UNESCO venture, so I wanted to keep tabs on whats happening in that area. I will keep you informed of developments at my end.

We now have multiple wiki pages for the issues that we are discussing. Several of these should lead to best practice documents.
