Gershon moved to approve previous meeting minutes. Kristen seconded and none objected.

 

Review open action items

JoAnn to outline a Beginner's Guide to Getting Output from DITA (tentative title).

 

Reviewed open action items.

Number 8 completed.

 (3 August 2009) Gershon to copy the modified statement to the wiki page for articles about DITA.   Completed

JoAnn will contact David Hollis once again to inquire about his work on the SWOT analysis.

 

Business

NEW ITEM: JoAnn updated the committee on the status of DITA adoption in Japan based on her participation in the Design IT conference in Tokyo, August 27-29. Reported that Yokogawa will be moving to DITA and that the DITA Consortium Japan is active and will translate the Introduction to DITA (Hackos) into Japanese by the end of the year. There is considerable interest but DITA is still new. They need more information translated into Japanese and would like to see more companies adopting. Another company, unnamed as yet, has already made this decision.

Gershon reported that Cisco is providing all major content to their Japanese divisions in DITA and are being asked for more. They are also successful with machine translation of DITA. JoAnn will send Gershon the contact for the DITA Consortium in case Cisco would like to take part.

 

ITEM: Discussion on glossary articles was postponed until authors are present in a call.

 

ITEM: DITA 1.2 Architectural Spec update (Kristen or Gershon)Kristen provided an update on the new schedule. DITA Adoption members are asked to participate in the next review from October 19 through November 1.

Reviewed the comments from Paul and recommended changes to Joe. He will make the changes by the next scheduled meeting.

 

ITEM: Reviewed some of Paul’s comments on the DITA compliance wiki page. Agreed that vendors are indeed part of the audience for this document. Agreed to modify the title of the section that calls out compliance and change “test” to “evaluate.” Discussed the importance of not superseding the DITA specifications in this compliance discussion. Gershon and the committee members will review the comments and suggest further revisions to the text.
