Subject: Re: Minutes from TC meeting on 27 Feb 2012

Gershon & all,

I am working on the issues we identified in the call. Two of them I
can put to bed for you now.

1. You could not establish liaisons with other organizations

I am not sure why that derailed earlier but should it come up again,
the OASIS Liaison Policy allows any TC to set up a relationship with
another working group or organization. You can do this yourselves. In
general what works best is that the person chosen for liaison be a
member of both organizations but whatever works out between you and
other group is fine. All that is required is that the selection of the
liaison be communicated to Laurent (an email suffices) and that you
list the liaison on your TC web page. See "Liaisons to a Technical
Committee or Member Section" in the "Liaison Policy" document
(http://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/liaison#tcliaison) for
all details. This policy has been effect since May, 2009.

2. You cannot get DITA documents translated because the translation
has to be done by OASIS members

This is not correct - you certainly can. OASIS has a translation
policy document that spells what you need to do to translate a
document. You can find it at
http://www.oasis-open.org/policies-guidelines/translation.

There is nothing in the policy document that restricts translation
activities to OASIS members only. In fact, in the Procedure section it
states: "You may work alone or together with others in the XML
community." For practical purposes, you can ignore the "XML" in the
sentence - you can work with anyone who is willing to do the work. So
long as you follow the notification and other requirements outlined in
that document, you are free to work with whoever you want to get DITA
documents translated.

I am following up on the other questions & concerns. Since these could
be closed I thought I would get them to you immediately.

Let me know if you have any questions.
