Subject: Discussion on Element Proposals
Dear DHSC Members At this morning’s/afternoon’s meeting, we took a
first look at two proposals for new DITA elements to provide for context hooks
and for window definitions. (These have been uploaded to the group area in both
HTML and DITA format.) Suggestions at the meeting from Alan Houser and Robin Sloan included: . Modifying the resourceid element instead of creating a new
help-context element (if the intention of the resourceid element was always to contain
context identifiers). . Adding an id attribute to the help-context element. . Changing the proposed help-window element name to window,
so it could be more generically applied. . Explore the potential of using the window named in the
ditamap as a basis for linking within topics. . Develop Use Cases for the workflow scenarios of the programmer
providing the Help author with map/alias files, and the Help author providing the
programmer with the same. . Develop Use Cases for coding the context hooks at the
topic level, at the map level, and coding externally from DITA. Alan and Robin, would you like to expand on your suggestions?
What other edits, suggestions, questions, deletions and comments
can we come up with? (I have also corrected the element position in the code
sample in the help-window proposal NN, so it now makes more sense.) Tony Self |
