Subject: Re: [dita-learningspec] for tomorrow's meeting .. learningbase?

Hi John,

Thanks for the thoughts, and sorry you can't make it tomorrow.

That particular wiki page jumps us ahead a little bit in that it provides details from the specializations Bob Bernard and I developed for the IBM DB2 pilot, with results published in the 2-part developerWorks articles - http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-dita9a/.

While those are good bases for our OASIS discussions, we haven't really gotten to those details quite yet.

That said, in the pilot specializations, the learningbase was intended as a initial specialization point from the DITA generic topic. It provides some content structures used by one or more of the subsequent topic specializations, but was not intended to be used for any actual topic content. Sounds like that might be something we may need to revisit when we get to the next phase of the OASIS discussions - detailing out the topic types and specialization designs.

John

Sorry I can't attend the meeting tomorrow due to an unavoidable conflict.
I looked over the topics (no pun intended) for discussion and only have
one issue/question/point of clarification ...

   WRT:

*I see learningbase which is proposed to be specialized from
topic/topic.  Unless I am way off here and don't understand ...

Isn't learningbase more akin to ditabase (with root element of <dita>)
from mother DITA 1.1?  I've seen use of <dita> as a container
that would seem ripe for whatever the Learning Object wrapper needs to
be.  It contains the various instructional objects and information objects
in the pretty picture.  Correct me if I'm off base here.

Other than that all seems pretty good to me.

Thanks,
John
