Subject: Groups - DITA Learning Content SC Meeting modified
DITA Learning Content SC Meeting has been modified by Scott Hudson Date: Thursday, 06 September 2007 Time: 04:00pm - 05:00pm ET Event Description: USA Toll Free Number: 866-880-0098 USA Toll Number: +1-210-795-1100 Australia Toll Free Number: 1-800-993-862 Australia Toll Number: 61-2-8205-8112 PASSCODE: 6396088 For information on specific country access dialing, see http://www.mymeetings.com/audioconferencing/globalAccessFAQ.php. Agenda: See agenda in the learning SC wiki - http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/6Sep2007Agenda Minutes: Bob Doyle Wayne Gafford Greg Davore Scott Hudson Jeff Deskins John Hunt Robin Sloan Allyn Radford # Status updates on our progress * Topic designs o We have complete draft designs, working schemas, and test sample content for the following topic types: o Learning Plan topic type. See August 9 meeting minutes. o Learning Overview topic type o Learning Summary topic type o Learning Assessment topic type o Learning Content topic type John has posted a first draft of language spec for the 5 learning topic types. (see the download page) * Metadata support o Scott Hudson is working on a draft design, schemas, and working samples for IEEE LOM metadata in the topic prologs of the five learning types, as specializations of the DITA data element. See IMS LOM design. Scott requested assistance pulling together the specialization. Allyn offered to help. * Learning Map Domain o Learning Map Domain provides a first draft design. We need to discuss: + Whether to allow nesting of learning objects + How to handle relationship tables * Assessment interactions o We have agreed to develop a basic set of assessment interactions as a native DITA domain specialization, based on Reuben Tozman's six basic interaction types. o We may also support use of QTI interactions as a DITA foreign domain specialization, based on the following technical dependencies: + QTI must provide both DTD and XSD implementations. + QTI must provide processing support to SCORM. + QTI must provide processing support for any additional delivery targets, such as PDF or HTML. # Next steps * Turn the wiki pages with the topic designs into DITA topics, and publish a draft specification for the 5 topic types, for review and approval by the sub-committee. John Hunt to coordinate this. Target completion: September 6. * Complete a draft DITA specialization design for IEEE LOM, including working schemas and sample content. Scott Hudson to lead this. Target complete: September 27. * Resolve map domain issues and turn the wiki pages on the Learning Map domain into DITA topics, and publish a draft specification for the learning map domain, for review and approval by the sub-committee. John Hunt to lead this. Target completion: September 27. * Develop a draft spec, including working schemas and sample content, for the DITA interactions domain, for review and approval by the sub-committee. John Hunt, John Accardi, Reuben Tozman to lead this. Target completion: September 27. * Goal: By end of September, we have resolved issues and approved designs for the 5 topic types, the map domain, the native assessment interactions, and the metadata model, including working schemas and basic sample content. * October - December - We tackle processing, with primary target of SCORM and secondary target PDF, according to our Phased Design Plan. # Today's Topics: * We have these topics to address in September: Wayne: concern with duplication of elements across the 5 topics (e.g. Objective). What is the strategy to make sure this is consistent across the topic types. John: learningBase type should provide the spot for common definitions that are common across the topic types. Wayne: How do you make sure the language is the same across the topic types? John: You are using the same element in the base, so this enables the reuse via conref. Should take a "Use what you want to use" approach. You don't have to use all of them, and could take an iterative development approach, but we shouldn't require folks to populate all of this information. Wayne and John to take a look at the element definitions again to make sure the overlap issue is addressed and documenting these. * the map domain - revisit, review, and discuss any remaining issues o Learning Map Domain provides a first draft design. We need to discuss: + Whether to allow nesting of learning objects + How to handle relationship tables Domain makes it possible to use this in any map structure, rather than specifying a specific map type. This allows you to use the bookmap specialization to pull together the learning content you may already have created into a book deliverable (for example). The type attribute on each of the learning topic refs would have to be enforced by the editor or the processing engine, but the type attribute is provided to enable this. Allyn: If you were going to do a transform in DITA, would you use this to create the IMS manifest? John: Yes, this learning object specification would go into the organizations part of the IMS manifest. This brings up the question about nesting of maps and higher levels of organization or hierarchy. Greg: Decision is to whether you can reference an external learning object, or whether to nest learning objects inside the same map? Scott: How are we supporting nested maps here? John: if you have 1 map per learning object, perhaps you could create the higher level map that references other nested maps (or learning objects). We probably need to have a separate discussion of maprefs/nested maps. interested: Allyn, Jeff, Robin. ACTION ITEMS: 1) John Hunt and Wayne Gafford to look at the element definitions again to make sure the overlap issue is addressed and documenting these. 2) John and Wayne to review the Learning Plan elements and add topics about them to the draft topic type spec. 3) Allyn, Jeff, Robin, John to review the map domain and come back with a proposal for higher-level nesting.
