Subject: DITA to SCORM Interaction Types Comparison

Title: [dita-learningspec] Groups - DITAlearningspecialization_ref_book_lite.pdf uploaded
Greetings,

John asked me to take a look at how the DITA and SCORM interactions compare. Tyde had already made this analysis so I am simply copying his work into this email...Wayne.

Tyde's Analysis...

The DITA Interactions are:

lcTrueFalse
lcSingleSelect
lcMultipleSelect
lcSequencing
lcMatching
lcHotspot

The IEEE 1484.11.1/SCORM Interactions are:

true_false
multiple_choice
fill_in
long_fill_in
likert
matching
performance
sequencing
numeric

Regarding DITA/SCORM interaction fit ...

1) True False

The DITA and SCORM approaches are complementary without modification.

2) DITA SingleSelect/MultipleSelect/Hotspot – SCORM Multiple Choice

For data reporting purposes, SCORM handles single select, multiple select,
and hotspots using the multiple choice interaction type. Single select is
handled as an instance of multiple choice with a single choice. A hot spot
is treated as a different UI convention (out of scope in SCORM) for
producing a multiple choice result (which in this case will be a choice).

Recommendation: These three DITA interaction types are complemented by the
SCORM multiple choice type. If you want to ease the mental mapping burden
for adopters I suggest changing “select” to “choice” – (“lcSingleChoice”,
“lcMultipleChoice”). You could even go with “lcHotspotChoice”.
