Title: FW: Meeting Minutes from Jan 18, 2008 Learning Subcommittee
hello again...my work email was down yesterday. i forwarded yesterday's minutes to the group list through yahoo, but never it showed up in my inbox.  trying again through my now working email service...apologies if this is a dupe.
-----

Greetings...

Below are the minutes from today's January 17, 2008 meeting on
developing a DITA learning content model FAQ.  In summary, the
discussion first focused on who will read the faq, then moved into a
first draft creation of an faq outline.  Please review the starter
outline. The outline will be posted on the wiki for OASIS documentation.

The plan is to discuss the FAQ for the "non-technical audience category"
next week.

Questions and answer development will be delegated.

Major discussion theme: Who will read the FAQ? Who is our intended
audience?

FAQ DITA Learning Content Model Categories

Rueben: any other sites that will host?

Wayne: Maybe ADL community site. Large SCORM following there.

Stan: shape faq by AUDIENCE. How to leverage content vs how to create
new content. collaboration vs initialization of content. discuss both.

John: matter of defining audience. developers and instructional
designers? don't see anyone writing dita code. focus on process and
design aspect, and then the developers. Also quite a bit of selling is
needed on the benefit of DITA. why would i want to use this.

Rueben: who are we building the faq for? in terms of instructional
designers, very few have heard of dita. if targeting them, what
questions would they have?

John: great point! why would dita benefit ids? storage? search? reuse?
ibm global services is a main driver to explaining dita on a day-to-day
work basis. how to plug in objects. how do you work outside of
proprietary environments?

Wayne: list of benefits per audience?

John: Benefits listed in the form of questions: how can i produce
consistent content development, for example, for none tech audiences.

John: who are we writing this for?

Stan: look into the user audience: fulltime ids and content developers,
and for tech pubs. lots of budget issues that effect business decisions.
how to leverage off of sunk costs into existing tech pubs.

Rueben: the benefit of a faq is to increase adoption. not too many
people who know about dita. must go to their trends. ids will not think
of reuse per se, but how to remain creative and how would dita
facilitate recent trends. its a marketing tool.

Wayne: what are the recent trends?

Rueben: ids are using new tools. what are the new tools for dita for
learning? can i use flash using dita? can i create online learning?

John: can i use sound?

Wayne: can i continue to do my job? Do we have enough for an outline?

wayne: we have not discussed tools or implentation in the learning sc.

john: developing a prototype to add dita components into powerpoint for
learning stakeholders. template-based. the dita model will drive content
