Subject: Groups - DITA Learning Content SC Meeting modified
DITA Learning Content SC Meeting has been modified by Scott Hudson Date: Thursday, 14 February 2008 Time: 11:00am - 12:00pm ET Event Description: USA Toll Free Number: 866-880-0098 USA Toll Number: +1-210-795-1100 Australia Toll Free Number: 1-800-993-862 Australia Toll Number: 61-2-8205-8112 PASSCODE: 6396088 For information on specific country access dialing, see http://www.mymeetings.com/audioconferencing/globalAccessFAQ.php. Agenda: Come see, hear, and discuss the plan for starter-kit DITA processing to SCORM templates. See agenda in the wiki - http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/14feb2008Agenda Minutes: DITA Learning SC minutes, 14 Feb 2008 Attendees: Wayne Gafford Robin Sloan Bill Blackmon Scott Hudson John Hunt Minutes: One key element in submitting specification for review as part of the DITA 1.2 will be including at least 3 "statements of use" from OASIS members. Need to have 3 statements of use by 7/1. Please try to start using the spec, so we can fulfill these statements of use! Wayne - ADL can support that by converting the Human Trafficing training Robin - providing a seminar in Feb or March on the PTC Training solution. Robin to send details to the list. DITA - SCORM processing, including interactions * Bill Blackmon and I have an update with a working sample to show for DITA - SCORM processing. Using Sample Run-time environment v1.3.3, John demo'd the working sample. Still need to write the XSLT to create the maps and SCORM zips. The DITA-OT is processing the topics. Template 4a: provides a set of 4 SCOs (as items), with 4 resources and all the associated files for each resource. In SCORM player, there are 4 items in the course container. Navigation is intra-SCO linking. Template 4b: uses the item (and nested items) for each SCO, as well as individual resources for each of the files. In SCORM player, there are now individual targetable items within each SCO. Much more fine-grained approach. Template 6: Trackable objectives with pre-test and post-test. Pre and post assessments are pulled from each learning object and grouped into an overall pre-test and post-test for the course! If a learner passes individual portions in the assessments, they can skip the content portions that apply. It uses a learningGroup and individual learningObjects. Those learning objects would have specific learning objectives. Each pre-test has an objective that maps to the learning objects. In the SCORM player, navigation is driven by the success on the pre-tests. Right now the sample has the appropriate javascript to communicate pass/fail on the test. The LMS controls the sequencing as informed by the contents of the manifest and the score on the pre-test. Interactions - supported in the player. Need to turn the assessment items into interactions in the HTML. Still need to develop the XSLT to render the 6 interactions as part of this. 4a, 4b and 6 are all valid packages available on the OASIS site, so anyone can test these in the player at this point! Wayne - any documentation or reasons for when you would use 4a over 4b? John - we should provide guidance here. Bill - setting up a testbed with 14 or 15 LMS systems. There will be some necessary steps to process the interactions as part of the DITA-OT processing. (XSLT extensions). Goal will be that when you build the map, that you can apply the appropriate extension/template to generate the SCORM package as appropriate! key information in the javascript: findObjective. There are 10 templates overall in the SCORM model, but our starter kit will only support 4a, 4b and 6 at this time (unless someone wants to volunteer to support the other templates!). The vendors may want to build out from there and support the other templates. Background: SCORM Best Practices Guide for Content Developers (http://www.jointadlcolab.org/downloads/research/2005/assessments/learner_assessment_bpguide_final.pdf) and SCORM Content Developer's Guide (http://141.225.40.64/lsal/expertise/projects/developersguide/). * The targets are these: o Template 4, both A and B versions (http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/map2manifest_templates). o Template 6, with one or more DITA learning objects, including pre- and post-assessment objectives. (http://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/LearningContent/map2manifest_templates_6) Scott - where do we go from here to fully support our offering? John - 1. Prepare the spec revisions, update element names FillIn - off the table unless further discussions Scott - what about short essay? John - may need to consider that, as well as a way to simply ask a question. We have a short window, but could fit these in if we can figure them out pretty quickly. 2. Would like to have the toolkit processing available soon, but not required for OASIS spec. Goal is to have the processing wrapped up as best we can by end of March. 3. Placeholders for metadata now, but need to add those in the templates and add processing. Bill - scorm.com - test track is another way to test out this content.
