Paul Eisenberg from Really Strategies joined as an observer recently.
John informed us that after meeting with Don Day and Robert Anderson, that we have an additional month to get the specification finalized.
John walked through the sample templates on the DITA wiki.
John demonstrated the toolkit plugin that processed a learning map to generate the SCORM package based on a specific template. He then imported the SCORM package into the ADL SCORM 2004 Sample Run Time Environment.
The first example demonstrated intra-SCO navigation (4a).
Template 4b creates a separate SCO for each topic ref in the map.
Still need some automation to add all of the resources to a single zip with the manifest.
Can set linking="none" on the map to turn off intra-topic linking (navigation is handled by the manifest/LMS.
Title in map is processed into the title of the organization in the manifest. Sequencing is defined on each item in the manifest.
The map is processed into the IMS manifest, and the rest of the content is processed by the DITA-OT.
Reuben: May be an issue when authors insert links to other topics (that might not be reflected in a map). If they are not in the map, then they won't be included in the resources.
John: In the processing, we are automatically listing all of the resources used (images, html, etc.).
Reuben: If you have a sequence built into your course (have to complete certain modules before you can take others), and there is a link in the content to a module that you are not allowed to go to (because of sequencing rules) then you could get locked into a certain area and unable to come back.
Stan: May need to be able to conditionalize the scope.
John: Best practices would be to avoid a lot of links within the topics and rely on the map navigation to control them.
John: Still need some help to develop an ant task to zip all the contents into a SCORM package.
Template 6 - preassessments determine the content that is displayed to the user. The navigation is based on the pass/fail of the preassessment.
Reuben to help work on the best practices for using the templates.
John will keep the processing private until we get this more fully developed.
Scott: What about the naming conventions/locations Eliot Kimber brought up on the list?
John: we are working with the TC and the DITA-OT folks to adopt the best practice with the DITA 1.2 spec once those conventions are finalized.
