Subject: LearningBase Requires learningBasebody: Should be optional
In converting my Open University sample I tried to do this mapping: Session -> learningContent title-only topic Per the OU schema, Session never has any direct untitled content, only subelements that will each be their own topics. Thus, there is no need for a body element *and allowing one would be counter to the OU schema*. That is, the OU schema says "Session may never have direct untitled content" and the only way to enforce that rule in DITA and still have a topic for the session would be to specialize learningContent to disallow learningContentbody. This is presuming that everything in the data set that is or contains learning content should be specialized from learningContent or learningBase. Thus, I would argue that learningBase (and its L&T-defined specializations) should make the body element optional rather than required. This would also allow for topics that have only abstracts or short descriptions and no bodies without requiring empty body elements.
