Subject: Re: [dita-learningspec] including learning content in DITA 1.3 technical content topic types
With DITA 1.3 we extended the specialization mechanism to allow you to treat structural specializations as though they were domains, meaning you can re-use selected element types from structural specializations in other structural specializations. We used this to allow reusing task elements in a different topic type not specialized from task. So this would provide a conforming way to include any of the L&T element types in any other topic or map type. Meaning you can do it today. However, as a general principle of specialization design, anything that could possibly be useful in a different topic or map type should be defined in its own domain and then included into whatever topic or map types need it. This almost certainly applies to the element types Amber has identified. Cheers, E. -- Eliot Kimber http://contrext.com From: <dita-learningspec@lists.oasis-open.org> on behalf of Amber Swope <amber@ditastrategies.com> One of the key use cases for teams who want to share content between learning and tech pubs is how to include learning content in standard DITA 1.3 topics. Specifically, here are some of the items folks want to include:
The current L&T support for these items is bound to the L&T topics and not able to be added to standard DITA topics. There are also other considerations for the support of these items:
There are 2 elements: lcInstruction is specialized from section and lcInstructorNote2 is specialized from note. Neither is available for inclusion in non-learning types One of my clients had a specialization for different types of instructor notes: say, show, and ask. Is this something we should consider, like note types?
Should this item be content or metadata? Does the current structure provide enough functionality?
Specialized from section, so maybe difficult to integrate in non-L&T topics What should our guidance be on how to associate resources to non-L&T topics? Are there other elements that you think might be appropriate to use in non-L&T topics when an organization is sharing these topics with learning organizations? Thanks, A |
