==Report from TC Call==

Kris reported that at the TC meeting members voiced concerns about template-based specialization; and that it conflates a standard that on one hand defines how to structure content and on the others defines content modelling.

There were many concerns going into the call what parts of LwDITA will end up going into the Committee Note, and in the end an acceptable compromise was made to split the template specialization process from the what is now being called the “content authoring portion” to ensure that the Committee Note as a whole will not be held back. The template specialization portion will not be done as a separate Committee Note. It was generally agreed that splitting them into two separate sections makes them easier to digest/understand.

Michael clarified that this compromise would not necessarily remove template-specialization completely out of the mix, but that it should ideally be a second deliverable that would follow soon after the content authoring portion and could possibly run in parallel in terms of development.

In response to a question during the TC call as to whether template-based specialization should instead be a part of DITA 2.0, Michael responded that he had no objection to this, but that he felt it would go better with LWDITA as it is a more constrained version of DITA. In other words, the minimum viable product for LwDITA is easier than it would be for DITA 2.0; so the template-based specialization would also correspondingly be "lightweight".

TO DO: Carlos will excise the template-based specialization portion from the existing draft and place it into a separate document in time for the next meeting.

RESOLVED: The template-based specialization portion of LwDITA will be separated from the content authoring portion. The intention is to deliver the content authoring material as the first Committee Note, to be followed by a separate Committee Note that discusses template-based specialization.

==Continuing item: Work on introductory LwDITA committee note==

There has been a considerable update from Tim, Carlos and Mark on the draft Committee Note, primarily on the template-based specialization section. Michael reviewed this content and he considers this to be a good start, but that it still needs considerable development. At the moment this section does not talk about specialized domain elements. In his opinion this section requires at least 2-3 more weeks of work, not taking into account the work still to be done on the authoring side.

Carlos asked whether it is possible to declare a key in an XDITA map. Michael’s response was that we have not yet defined maps and map behavior in LwDITA fully, and that this needs work. He also noted that there is no keydef element in LwDITA.

Cheers!
