4.1 Approve the committee draft of the Best Practices for Indexing
Approved (move Rodolfo, second Andrzej)
JoAnn will submit the committee draft to the DITA TC
4.2 Reviewed Andrzej's draft of the conref best practice.
Discussed the recommended use of proper nouns in thenominative case rather than objective case
avoid grammatically incorrect text in translation.
Rodolfo recommended sending the DITA XML and the published documents to the translator for review.
Generated text should be maintained as XML. Extend the best practice to include generated text.
Since the DITA map is an XML document, translatable text in the map is not a problem. However,
translatable text in a map may require one map for every language.
4.3 Handling multi-language documents
Discussed the creation of a multi-language document using conrefs or separate documents. Processing
software should be used to combine the language-specific text into the final document.
The multi-language text should only be merged at composition time. Do not include multi-language
text into a single document.
DITA provides an explicit architecture to manage this processing.
Will Nancy Harrison create the best practice draft?
4.4 XLIFF and DITA compatibility
Discussed potential issues with XLIFF and DITA. Conrefs, translate=yes attribute, may require
specially designed filters.
May be a problem using Java code to process the DITA map. Suggestion to separate the code that
processes the DITA map. Problem with the licenses. Is it possible to change the license?
4.5 XLIFF article
Rodolfo has provided a wiki for development of the article on XLIFF.
