Regarding conref and/or variable substitution for documentation for 
product names etc., Nick Rosenthal who was at the DITA Conference in 
Frankfurt has a very informative page which lists many of the pitfalls:

Although this page deals in the main with software localization it is 
definitely worth a read! Many of the points relate directly to the type 
of problem that can be encountered when trying to do the same in DITA.

This Monday we have the monthly Lisa OSCAR TC which overlaps by half an 
hour with the DITA Translation TC. I will therefore be 30 minutes late 
for the DITA Translation TC call.
