DITA Translation Subcommittee Meeting Minutes: 23 October 2006

The DITA Translation Subcommittee met on Monday, 23October 2006 at 08:00am PT
for 55 minutes.
1. Roll call

2. Accept Minutes[1] from 16 October 2006

3. Review open action items
ACTION: Nancy Harrison to work on examples of multi-language documents
this week and we'll formulate a definition next meeting.
CONTINUE.
ACTION: Andrzej to update conref best practice document
CONTINUE.
4. Returning business:
4.1 Review and approve the final revision of the TM best practices.
ACTION: Gershon to discuss with Don getting the Index and TM best
practices into DITA markup and create the XSLT to generate OASIS cover
pages and format.
APPROVED unanimously
4.2 Reviewed Andrzej's draft of the best practices on conref; made recommendations for additions.
Andrzej will revise.

Work with Christian Lieske to get final draft of the DITA/Translation analysis that he will
present at tekom/OASIS Open source day in Wiesbaden.

2. Forgot to accept the Minutes from 23 October 2006
3. Review open action items
ACTION: Nancy Harrison to work on examples of multi-language documents
this week and we'll formulate a definition next meeting.

ACTION: Andrzej to update conref best practice document
CONTINUE.
4. Returning business:
4.1 Review Robert Anderson's compilation of the new inline elements from the
1.1 specification for DITA.
Suggested some changes that Robert will make to the document.
Suggested that all members review the document more carefully before
next week's meeting.
4.2 Reviewed Nancy Harrison's examples of multi-language documents.
Suggested separate topics for each language. Each source document
is thus controlled by its lang= attribute.
Discussed Don Day's academic example. Bruce Esrig provided an example
from the NY Times. Bob Doyle trying to find the Walter Ong example
that JoAnn quoted.
Problem with inline language, i.e. Green or Latin that should not
be translated. Handled through a translate=no
4.3 Gershon will work with Don on the formatting specialization for
DITA of the OASIS branded documents.
Don will take the two completed Best Practices on indexing and TM
to the TC for a vote.
