Subject: About agendas and expectations
Peace, all. I think I may have allowed this issue to come up because I've been updating agenda items DURING the meeting. From now on *after an agenda has gone out,* I will not add any new items that are based on late-arriving deliverables that need the committee's eyes. I'll still dynamically correct the agenda if its wrong, but frankly, all of our discussions for a meeting should be in place BY the meeting so that during the call, we can concentrate on our discussion. And approval items really need to be sent/uploaded well before the meeting (at least a few hours before, preferably the day before). I appreciate everyone's concerns, and I hope that keeping the agenda frozen after it has gone out (except for corrections) will help our expectations. I'd like to remind everyone that our TC and its subcommittees are fairly busy, and all of us need to be prepared in advance for our meetings. Minutes need to be sent out soon after meetings so that members with action items can work from that record. Uploads for discussion or approval need to be timely enough to allow members to to review for either form or content as needed. Being prompt to join the call prior to roll call helps the Chairs expedite that unpleasant business. Just common sense reminders for all of us. Now back to great work on our business at hand! We're all serious about our participation and spend a great deal of time and effort of these activities. JoAnn JoAnn T. Why is the text on page 2: [Insert paragraph describing particular TC or Topic area as appropriate.] still in this copy of the document? Are we planning to publish it like this? On page five, the second "bullet" has some odd font changes in the middle of the text (in fact, in the middle of the word "the"). Page six also seems to have some odd font changes. (Makes me think this document must not have been generated via DITA and XML.) On page 8, the font use under "Fuzzy matching" is odd. On page 9, the font use under SRX and xml:tm is questionable. Regarding JoAnn's annoyed sounding "alright" when I said I wasn't ready to vote to approve this in the last 10 seconds of today's call since we were informed of this latest version only minutes before today's telcon, I'd like to remind the entire TC that we are a standards making body. When we vote to approve something, we're supposed to mean it, and when we publish something, it's supposed say what we mean for it to say and be formatted in a way that doesn't embarrass us. It may be that I've been doing standards for too long, but I take the standards development process seriously, and I'd prefer not to be forced to vote on something that I haven't had time to read. paul > -----Original Message----- > From: joann.hackos@comtech-serv.com > [mailto:joann.hackos@comtech-serv.com] > Sent: Tuesday, 2007 August 21 10:21 > To: dita-translation@lists.oasis-open.org > Cc: dita@lists.oasis-open.org > Subject: [dita] Groups - Best Practice for Leveraging Legacy > Translation Memory when Migrating to DITA > (TranslationBestPracticesWhitePaper.doc) uploaded > > OASIS official format for the Translation Memory Best Practice > > -- Dr. JoAnn Hackos > > The document named Best Practice for Leveraging Legacy Translation > Memory when Migrating to DITA > (TranslationBestPracticesWhitePaper.doc) has been submitted by Dr. > JoAnn Hackos to the DITA Translation Subcommittee document repository. > > Document Description: > This paper describes best practices that will help organizations use > their legacy TM for future translation projects that are authored in > DITA XML. > These practices will allow them to minimize the expense of ongoing > translations of XML-based content. > > View Document Details: > http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-translation/ > document.php?document_id=25036 > > Download Document: > http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/dita-translation/ > download.php/25036/TranslationBestPracticesWhitePaper.doc
