Subject: Pushing a title into topics
Some of you may have seen this come up on the dita-users list earlier today... In DITA maps, the general behavior is that navtitle attribute values are ignored for processing - the current title is pulled from the referenced topic. This behavior can be changed so that the title is locked. There is no way to do the opposite - to push a title from the map into a topic. Within IBM, we've gotten around this with a map domain and a processing override. The domain has two override elements; when these are specified, the title and/or shortdesc are pushed into the topic. The overrideTitle element is specialized from linktext (though coming off of <navtitle> will be preferred with DITA 1.2); overrideShortdesc comes off of shortdesc. If the original linktext or shortdesc elements are used, the normal behavior is used. Requests for this type of behavior have come up several times - could we consider standardizing such a domain for DITA 1.2? Do others have alternate methods for accomplishing the same thing? Thanks- Robert D Anderson IBM Authoring Tools Development Chief Architect, DITA Open Toolkit (507) 253-8787, T/L 553-8787
