Subject: Re: [dita] Draft charter for the DITA Adoption Subcommittee

Hi JoAnn,

This draft appears identical to the one you circulated on Mar 31.

So I will repeat my thoughts and suggestions.
____________________________

This draft looks very good to me.

Should the first para say

By advancing the adoption of DITA through OASIS ?

[Advancing adoption of DITA within OASIS seems futile. They hardly use XML within XML.org!]

I very much like Scope point 2. I would like to follow up on my survey of Wikipedia pages mentioning DITA or strongly related to DITA.

And I am happy about main point 6, to emphasize sharing and coordination with other entities, like www.DITAUsers.org.

From experience with burned fingers at KM Pro and CM Pros, I am skeptical about Scope point 12 - certification. Likely to be can of worms. Maybe certificates of completion - e.g., of your Workshop, of Michael's course, of accredited tutorials, but professional certification, I would say no.
______________________________

If I were a subcommittee member, I would move we drop or significantly reword Scope point 12.

Will the Adoption Subcommittee be formed soon? Who will be able to participate?

This is important because Scope point 1 says the new SC  will oversee the DITA Focus Area, previously the work of the Ed Board.

Participation in Ed Board meetings has fallen to near zero recently.

Instead of spending my time in meetings about the DITA Focus Area and especially the "wiki" knowledgebase, I have spent my time recently simply adding content to the knowledgebase and editing what is there to be better organized. Much remains to be done, of course.

Cheers,

Bob

By:

       12. Establish professional certification programs

are we talking about certifying people as "DITA knowledgeable"
or are we talking about certifying software as "DITA conformant"?

I'm assuming the former which is fine with me--the latter
is a can of worms we do not want to open--but I'd prefer if
that were made a bit clearer in the charter.
