Folks, I've gone through the task of outlining the processes that
we'll need to go through to release DITA 1.3. They are outlined in
the attached PowerPoint slide deck; the key thing to know about is
that it will require a minimum of 25 weeks AFTER we lock down all
the spec content.
I think we are going to have to make some hard choices if we want to
release DITA 1.3 before 2018. Personally, I'd like to see DITA 1.3
released in December 2014, but to be honest, I don't know if it is
possible.
Another thing to be aware of is the work items that will need to be
completed BEFORE we can lock down the spec content. Here is my
current, incomplete list:
- Clean up existing SVN repository
- Prototype new design for contains and contains by tables
- Acquire new tools, if necessary to build contains and contains
by tables
- Acquire new tool for zipping up resources used by the spec
- Prototype, document, and develop consensus around DITA 1.3
packages
- Prototype, document, and develop consensus around information
design for DITA 1.3 specification
- Develop build process and scripts
- Acquire new licenses for PDF rendering engines (XEP and
Antenna House)
- Add new or modified topics to the specification that have been
through the DITA 1.3 process
- Incorporate DITA 1.2 errata (see https://wiki.oasis-open.org/dita/DITA1.2Errata)
-- DONE by Eberlein, 22-24 May 2013
- Complete spec fixes and clarifications (see
https://trello.com/board/spec-clarifications-improvements/513f5fb5974e438578001a71)
- Note that this Trello board does not yet contain items
listed in review #1-3 as being deferred to DITA 1.3)
- Complete code fixes (see
https://trello.com/board/dita-1-3-code-fixes/519e8e1dfb386ec417000ae9
)
- Edit and rewrite sections of specification that have been
noted as needing this work:
- Edit "Configuration, specialization, and constraints"
- Redo Coverage of subjectScheme and classification
- Redo Coverage of keys
- Conduct internal TC reviews of DITA 1.3 content (How many
reviews? How should we best organize them?)
- Conduct final internal review of DITA 1.3 packages
