I don't have any problem with registering this, but I do want to point out one thing.

The topic in DITA 1.2 essentially tells readers - "We are actively at work on this item, so you can make use of it now." That effort was abandoned, then forgotten, so the topic to me becomes an example of why you should not fill a standard with planned future activities.

If somebody on the TC is really committed to pushing this - and to coming under Kris's microscope at TC meetings - then I think we can update the topic and include it. Without that, I don't yet see anything that makes registration more likely now than it was when we had an active DITA for the Web Subcommittee.

Please let me know if/when the TC wants to move forward on the registration.  It's not rocket science, as you all know, but it's important to have Staff-TC coordination on the formal process of registration, so that everything goes as smoothly as possible and provides the optimal information for registration maintenance.  Which we can discuss off-thread, as needed.

Note that several of the URI references cited for IETF registrations below [1] ( in the JIRA ticket) are now obsolete: I'll update the applicable URI references in ticket with a new comment, or perhaps better, open a new ticket, next week.

I would be in favor of registering it and including it in 1.3.

Thanks and best regards,

    Dear DITA TC members -

A few years back when the DITA for Web SC was active, we had some discussion on the question of registering a DITA MIME type.

Don Day and Robin Cover had this exchange in 2011, from the TC email list:

      https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/dita/201110/msg00024.html

Which leads to the official spot for tracking registration of application/dita+xml:

      https://issues.oasis-open.org/browse/TCADMIN-613

Robert and Kris kindly reminded me about this Mime type issue, and that we have an open topic in the 1.3 spec to address it.

What are current thoughts on either

      a) moving ahead with getting this mime type registered and including that in the 1.3 spec, or

      b) dropping it and removing the topic from 1.3 spec?

      Thanks.

      John
