Subject: Re: [dita] Graphics overhaul - status

Tom and Chris, thank you both for making the new and old versions easy to compare.

Tom, the new ones are really an improvement, and in the case of some, especially the doctype shell, key scopes, and release mgmt, make the concept much easier to understand than it was before.  I always wonder about images with colors and how color-blind folks can relate to them, and the imagemap graphic makes good use of shapes to supplement the colors, so I think that will make it usable by them as well.

Chris, I did notice that under the section "Navigation Links' in  Formatting conventions in the XHTML version of the specification, it says "When readers hover over the navigation links, the short description of the DITA topic also is displayed. "  But the navigation in the page itself (e.g. the 'Parent topic' link) does not display hoverhelp.  I know this Titania version isn't the 'official XHTML version of the specification' being described, but you might want to mimic that part of it.

Anyway, kudos to you both, and thanks.

Nancy

This is great, thanks Chris!

I have completed revising all of the graphics in the 1.3 spec. This is a comprehensive but "non-substantive/material" overhaul -- aesthetic updates only, although in several cases I made some alterations that I believe improve the clarity/understanding of the original, without changing the essence.

It wouldn't hurt to have some eyes that are not mine to review all of the graphics, but I'm not sure what would be a convenient way to do that. I think this would be a somewhat urgent task -- needing to have any subsequent revisions done by the end of this week, maybe? (Kris? Robert?)

One thing I could and would do is simply email a copy of the new set to anyone who wants to see them, along with a list of the locations where the old ones can be viewed.

Or, if you have access to the SVN repository, everything's checked in.

This review would not be a difficult task, by the way. There are only 10 graphics in the largest ("all-inclusive") edition of the spec, and a grand total of 13 images to be examined. (13, not 10, because the "editions diagram" has four versions--one for each edition plus the "overview" doc.)
