Thanks for that -- it solved the first problem, only to uncover another
one.

Jade now consistently emits:

    dblib.dsl:661:6:E: 1st argument for primitive "literal" of wrong type: \
        "#f" not a string

irrespective of which id I point to in the target document -- it also occurs
with a massively stripped down target document.  I won't clog up the list
with examples, but I'll happily forward them on to anyone who thinks they
might be able to help.
