Well, that moved things forward, but it's still not yet soup:

--- snip ---

nsgmls -wxml -s /usr/pkg/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl/modular/dtds/decls/xml.dcl
fancy.xml

nsgmls:/usr/pkg/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl/modular/dtds/decls/xml.dcl:1:W:
SGML declaration was not implied

nsgmls:/usr/pkg/share/sgml/docbook-website/1.10/website.dtd:33:0:E: could
not get "/xml/4.1.2/docbookx.dtd" from "docbook.org" (reason given was "File
Not Found")

--- snip ---

So, an effort is being made to read in the dtd, but it fails for some
reason. But if the server returns a 'File Not Found' then the request must
be malformed, somehow. Interestingly enough, one reads at
http://www.jclark.com/sp/sysid.htm that "Only the http scheme is currently
supported and not on all systems."

If among the "not on" systems one finds NetBSD that would explain things,
including the omission of the '--enable-http' configure arg in the Makefile
that creates NetBSD's jade package.

Any NetBSD'ers out there? <g>
