Subject: DOCBOOK-APPS: PassiveTeX problems

Hi, DocBook and PassiveTeX Enthusiasts:

I'm running into some problems trying to use PassiveTeX
to render the DocBook FOs to PDF.

As I'm ignorant about TeX, I'm wondering if my TeX installation
has configuration problems. In particular, I'm unsure which
TeX packages or collections are required for PassiveTeX.

I'm using the following tool versions:

DocBook 1.4.1 XSL with no fo customizations other than

        <xsl:param name="passivetex.extensions" select="1"/>
        <xsl:param name="insert.xref.page.number" select="1"/>

PassiveTex from 2001/06/19
TeX Live 6
    pdfTeX, Version 3.14159-14h-unofficial-20010629 (Web2C 7.3.3.1)
    xmltex version: 2000/09/07 v1.8y (Exp)
    LaTeX2e <2000/06/01>

I installed TeX with LaTeX, pdftex, and xmltex collections and
replaced the CD version of PassiveTeX with the latest PassiveTeX
download. Then, when generating PDF revealed missing TeX
packages, I installed the missing packages and rebuilt the formats
and macro hashes.

Now, the TeX macros seem to load okay except for the following
warnings:

(/path/to/texlive6-20000102/texmf/tex/latex/stmaryrd/stmaryrd.sty)
WARNING: Elsevier font setup not found
(/path/to/texlive6-20000102/texmf/tex/xmltex/passivetex/dummyels.sty)
WARNING: mmasym package not loaded. some symbols will fail

The second warning puzzles me, as the installation contains

    /path/to/texlive6-20000102/texmf/tex/latex/mma/mmasym.sty

I also see the following font warnings:

Warning: pdftex (file rawfonts.map): cannot open font map file
Warning: pdftex (file csfontd.mapfile): cannot open font map file

During processing of the input FO, an error seems to occur
at each instance of a table column:

! Illegal unit of measure (pt inserted).
<to be read again>
                   0
l.1 ...:table><fo:table-column column-number="1"/>
                                                  <fo:table-column column-nu...

Also, there are many warnings along the lines of

Overfull \hbox (14.98987pt too wide) in paragraph at lines 2273--2273

and

Underfull \hbox (badness 10000) has occurred while \output is active

Do these errors and warnings indicate a problem
in the TeX installation or configuration? Is there a way
to verify the TeX installation or configuration?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Erik Hennum
