thanks Togan, I'll try that at home. However, I'm afraid this is for
custom header and footers (which I need anyway) and not for footnotes --
they are within writable page margins, rather than in footer.

I start to think that footnote rule is hardcoded in JadeTeX. Things seem
to get complicated...
