I think you need a customization layer, because the bgcolor
number is coded in the stylesheets as as part of an
xsl:attribute-set.  The parameter reference for
'shade.verbatim.style' shows the syntax which can be
used in a customization layer.  It isn't really a
parameter.

Selecting that color seems like a reasonable feature
request, though, if you care to submit it.
