DOCBOOK-APPS: Profiling doesn't work with 1.53.0 FO stylesheets

Has anyone got a workaround (or better a fix) for the following: 

When trying to use the fo/profile-docbook.xsl stylesheet in 1.53.0 I get
different errors depending on the processor:

With saxon 6.5 it loops and displays 
Making portrait pages on A4 paper (210mmx297mm)
Making portrait pages on A4 paper (210mmx297mm)
Making portrait pages on A4 paper (210mmx297mm)
etc.

xsltproc just segfaults shortly after displaying the "Making portrait
..." message. (Version info on xsltproc is:
Using libxml 20419, libxslt 10015 and libexslt 706
xsltproc was compiled against libxml 20418, libxslt 10015 and libexslt
706
libxslt 10015 was compiled against libxml 20418
libexslt 706 was compiled against libxml 20418
).

This behaviour happens with the tiniest possible article (article,
title, sect1, title and a para).
