I certainly agree that Saxon is a good XSLT processor, especially if you are interested in extension functions. I haven't had any problems with it. FOP is also the best FO processor I've run into. But, I haven't spent a lot of time looking at open source print options yet as we use Arbortext Epic (good commercial editor / publisher if you have the budget for it) for printing.
