Question about HTMLHelp book node: can I make it display content instead ofTOC?

I would like the Book node in the TOC of HTMLHelp to display content 
instead of 
TOC on the right-hand pane. Does DocBook have any provision for doing 
this?

My <book>s consist of one <preface> and multiple <chapters>s. 

Currently, the stylesheets seem to put <preface> and <chapter>s 
at the same level of the navigation tree, and diplsay the table of 
contents
for the <book> node itself.

Instead, I would like to the <book> node to display the contents of 
<preface>, and remove the <preface> node from the navigation tree.
I don't need the table of contents in the right-hand pane because
the navigation tree serves the same purpose.

Has anyone done this? If so, please share your experience and/or 
technique.
