You could experiment with space-before.precedence and space-after.precedence
to see if you could work out a resolution scheme for various combinations of
elements.  Unfortunately, if you are using FOP, those properties are not
supported.

hi,

if i got a xml like this:

(...)
<section>
<title>...</title>
<section>
<title>...</title>
(...)

the space between the two titles is space.before of the 2nd section.
is there a workable way to use soace.after of the 1st section instead?
